Topeka City Council "changes" city name

Well, they didn't really change the name. But a proclamation states that the city should be referred to as "Google" for the month of march. All this in an effort to persuade Google to lure it's fiber optic network trail to Topeka. (Topeka Capital-Journal)

Jenny Unrein is Washburn Rural HS senior. Although she faces challenges of her own, she works to help others by creating and selling artwork. A portion of the proceeds go to charity.

Mitigation Plan Will Expand Baker Wetlands

The Kansas DOT is funding an expansion of the wetlands including 142 acres west of Louisiana. This mitigation project will cost $975,000. The state doesn't yet have the $148 million necessary to build to road itself.

New Eudora Elementary Ahead of Schedule, Historic Home Likely to be Demolished

Washburn Gets New "W"

Because of a lawsuit brought by the University of Wisconsin-Madison. All the W's on uniforms, helmets, basketball courts, and almost everywhere it is used will change to the new Washburn logo.

I ran across this article in the Eudora News about the history of the name Blue Jacket. While doing some on-line research I ran across this page with more info about the Wakarusa River and Blue Jacket Crossing.

Here is yet another history about Blue Jacket Crossing and I also found this article in the Lawrence Journal World. Which says

Tonganoxie Awards Contract to Build Skate Park

Tonganoxie will pay $83K to build phase 1 of a skate park. The article also talks about other city council decisions and the new water park that opened this year.
