Mitigation Plan Will Expand Baker Wetlands

Nature and EcologyThe Kansas DOT is funding an expansion of the wetlands including 142 acres west of Louisiana. This mitigation project will cost $975,000. The state doesn't yet have the $148 million necessary to build to road itself.

Nature and EcologyIt is no surprise that natural spaces are being reduced. However, there are efforts to preserve these sites. This is a very good article which includes a map of known natural communities in the county.
